Volvo is making a big impression in the electric car market with a great range of wagons and SUVs. Two of these options are the C40 and EX30, an all-new model for 2025. The models cater to different customer segments. The EX30 is a great choice as your first EV, while the C40 appeals to a more upmarket buyer looking for added luxuries. Here at Volvo Cars Mission Viejo, we'd be happy to let you test drive either vehicle and answer any questions you may have about them. Feel free to contact us today to learn more.

Trims and Features

The EX30 has a starting price of just over $36,000, which is very affordable for an electric vehicle. You can choose from five trims with two power train configurations: Core Single Motor, Plus Single Motor, Ultra Single Motor, Plus Twin Motor, and Ultimate Twin Motor. The MSRP of the most affordable trim with front-wheel and rear-wheel motors comes in at around $46,000.

The EX30's interior is designed with recycled materials, including material recovered from the denim recycling process and repurposed polyester. The overall design is modern and minimalist, with the glove box standing out due to its new position under the center console. You'll have accommodation for five passengers, with the second row able to fold down to create more space for your cargo.

The C40 Recharge has a higher starting MSRP price tag of around $55,000, but it's a larger vehicle with corresponding capabilities. You can choose from the Core, Plus, and Ultimate trims in both the single and dual motor configurations. In the cabin, you'll have a high seating position so you can enjoy a commanding view of the road. The C40 is a leather-free car, but you still can look forward to premium soft-touch materials. A power-adjustable driver's seat comes standard, and you can add one for the passenger and power-adjustable headrests by moving up to the Plus trim.

Specs and Dimensions

In single-motor more, the EX30's rear-wheel motor and battery pack produce 268 horsepower. They can move this wagon from 0 to 60 mph in a little over 5 seconds, not bad for an entry-level vehicle. For those looking for a bit more power, the dual-motor setup is a good choice. Adding the front-wheel motor to the mix boosts power to a solid 422 horsepower, meaning you can reach 60 mph in about 3.5 seconds. The driving ranges don't change much: 275 miles on a full charge with the single motor and 265 miles with the dual motor.

The rear-wheel motor setup in the C40 can manage 248 horsepower and move this Volvo from 0 to 60 mph in about 6.6 seconds. If you step up to all-wheel drive, the second motor helps generate 402 horsepower. You'll manage the dash to 60 mph in about 4.4 seconds. The single-motor C40 offers the best driving range of both vehicles. It can achieve 297 miles on a full charge, while the dual-motor version gets 257 miles. Thanks to DC fast charging, you can load up the C40's battery from 10% to 80% in just 28 minutes.

The dimensions inside the cabin are relatively similar, although the C40 is a hatchback whereas the EX30 is a wagon. Behind the rear row of the C40, you'll find 17 cubic feet of storage space. With the second row folded down, you can carry 49 cubic feet of cargo.

The EX30 is slightly more compact, offering 14 cubic feet at the rear and 32 cubic feet with the rear row down. So if you plan on transporting much more than your groceries or items for the daily commute, you'd probably be better served by the C40. That said, the EX30 has more than enough room for day-to-day cargo.

Tech and Safety

The infotainment system in the C40 includes a touchscreen and a digital gauge cluster. The infotainment system was developed with assistance from Google, and it relies on its Maps and Assistant to provide a navigation system and voice recognition respectively. You can opt for a premium Harman Kardon stereo.

The innovation in the EX30 is that Volvo adopts a vertically oriented display that acts as the infotainment display and gauge cluster at the same time. It has the same navigation and voice recognition features on offer in the C40. You can benefit from wireless Apple CarPlay and Volvo's daring decision to install a sound bar along the dashboard rather than individual speakers for the sound system.

Both Volvos are well equipped with the latest vehicle safety features. Standard features across Volvo's lineup include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection and forward collision warning. When you reach highway speeds, you can make use of the lane departure warning to avoid sliding into the wrong lane of traffic, and the lane keep assist to help you stay centered in your lane. The adaptive cruise control feature manages your speed so you stay a safe distance away from others on the road.

Safety is enhanced in both of these cars with Volvo's generous warranty arrangements. You get complimentary scheduled maintenance for the first three years or 36,000 miles of driving. There's also a limited warranty lasting four years or 50,000 miles. With the Care by Volvo subscription service, you can get an EV charger for your home and an extended warranty to protect your vehicle against unexpected issues.
